Pisac - Paucartambo
The small town of Pisac, at 2950 m.a.s.l. is the entrance door of the Urubamba valley or the Sacred Valley. It is very famous for its traditional and colorful Sunday fair where you can find local handicrafts and beautiful weavings among many other objects. We recommend you to visit its church of colonial origin where they still celebrate masses in Quechua.

If you are in Good physical conditions, you can visit the archaeological site of Pisac. It is located at the top of a hill. Pisac was an important fortress to watch the capital of the Inca Empire. As going up, you will observe the group of amazing terraces and at the top you will see the Intihuatana or solar watch as well as other perfect walls and several rooms built with very refined stones.

To get to Paucartambo you can take the alternating route to Pisac. It is a roadbed petrating towards the northeast. The route pass by Huancarani and Huambutio to go down during four hours and some dust as far as the fertile valley of Paucartambo. Once you have arrived, you will have your reward: a town of strong colonial remains an embedded in the valley at 2900 m.a.s.l. Its white houses with blue balconies, are matching the sky. The sky of the same bright blue and its stony streets welcome you. Its old bridge, church and small squares seem to have been trapped by the time.

Paucartambo is also famous for the festivity of its patrones: the Virgen del Carmen (Virgin of Carmen) celebrated on July 16th. The quiet town becomes, during a week, a festive and colorful place with tenths of groups of masked dancers and custome groups area celebrating with processions, music and firework. If you have plenty of time and energy get upt at dawn to go to Tres Cruces at four in the morning. This is a belvedere located at 35 km far from Paucartambo (3 739 m.a.s.l. ) where you will admire the most spectacular sunrise
